Consultation – Resourced Provision at Oyster Park Primary Academy
I am pleased to share that Oyster Park Primary Academy has secured support from Wakefield Local Authority to explore the possibility of expanding our support for pupils with additional needs, particularly those with Speech, Language and Communication needs.
What is Being Proposed?
We are working with the Local Authority to develop SEN unit Resource Provision based within Oyster Park Primary Academy from September 2026.
This would be a specialist resource base for up to 18 pupils, for pupils in Early Years or Key Stage One, to support more pupils from our community to access local specialist support when they need it.
The new resource provision would enhance what is already established in The Harbour. The new, purpose-built area will offer personalised learning and support for pupils with Speech, Language and Communication need as their primary need. This provision would also build on the support already offered as part of our Academy graduated response, to ensure all pupils’ needs are effectively met.
Who Is It For?
In line with the local and national context, Oyster Park Primary Academy is seeing significant and sustained growth in the numbers of pupils requiring more specialist provision, particularly those with communication and interaction needs.
The aim of the resource provision would be to better meet the needs of the Oyster Park Primary pupil community who have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) for Communication and Interaction Needs.
The new provision will not affect the usual admissions process for pupils joining Oyster Park Primary Academy. Places will be specifically allocated in agreement between the Local Authority and the Academy leadership team for pupils with identified needs through their EHCP.
What Are the Benefits?
This development would help us to offer even more tailored support to pupils with additional needs. This would contribute to improving provision for SEND pupils across our Academy and Airedale Community, supporting our existing staffing and expertise already in place.
What does the consultation process involve?
As we begin to shape this provision, we want to make sure we consider the views and ideas of staff, parents, carers and schools within the community. The consultation process will run from Friday January 16th for three weeks.
If you would like to submit comments, please email opoffice@oppa.castlefordtrust.co.uk by 4pm on Friday, February 6th.
Your feedback is extremely important to us as we continue to improve and ensure Oyster Park Primary Academy is a place where every child is supported to achieve their best.
Yours faithfully,
Jodie Chapman-Kemp
